Instead of another Valentine’s craft however, I am here with a fun DIY for your dollhouse home decor! This one is pretty simple, but I think it makes a big impact.

I love hurricane candles. I love all candles in general, really. I am just terrified to light them in case I forget about them, and end up burning the house down. 😅

(My biggest nightmare is my teen daughter lighting candles in the basement without my knowledge, and then forgetting them. We have had numerous talks about it.)

However, doll candles I can get behind. No real danger here, and the cuteness is so worth it in my opinion.

Now, I have made doll candles before. I made some candy cane ones as well as some tapered ones for our doll Christmas decor series. Go ahead, and use those tutorials to make as many different doll candles as you like. 😊

Today, however I was just using what I had on hand.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Dollar store clear plastic travel bottle

Small jar lid

Black and white paint

Dental floss

Hot glue/Scissors

Parchment paper

Exacto blade (parental supervision)

Faux greenery (optional)

BBQ skewer (optional)

This is the type of bottle I used. The jar lid is one of the small ones from a jar of olives. Make sure the bottle fits the jar lid.

The first order of business is to cut off the bottom of the travel bottle. Use an exacto blade for this with parental guidance. Cut carefully and set aside the bottom piece as it will be used later.

Next, cut the top off the bottle. Trim the edges so they are straight. Discard the top piece.

You will be left with a cylinder. Set it aside.

Paint both the jar lid and the leftover piece from the bottom of the travel bottle black. I used a metallic black.

Set aside.

Now take the lid from the travel bottle. We are going to make a pillar candle. Fill in the top with hot glue. I pressed the glue flat against my silicone mat to even it out.

This is the bottom of the candle anyway so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

For the top of the candle, place a gob of hot glue on the silicone mat or you could use parchment paper and press the bottle lid into it. Hold until it fully cools. Peel it away and using your exacto blade, cut away the excess glue.

Paint the candle white. Lay a piece of dental floss across the top of the candle. Add a dot of hot glue to keep it in place.

Trim the wick. Paint the dot of hot glue white to match the rest of the candle.

You could also paint the wick black if you like that look.

Okay, now you have a choice. You can either pop the candle on top of the black lid and place the plastic cylinder on top and call it a day.

Either in the lid

or on top.

Or you can make a stand. I have seen hurricane candles both with or without stands so it is entirely up to you.

You can also add greenery if you wish.

Or wrap some twine around your hurricane vase. These ones don’t even require a base. Just cut the top off the bottle, pop the candle in, wrap some twine around and you are done!

The options are truly unlimited.

For the stand, cut a small piece of BBQ skewer and paint it black.

We used these bamboo skewers.

Hot glue the skewer piece to the leftover piece you painted from the bottom of the travel bottle.

Now hot glue the stand to the bottom of your jar lid, making sure that the candle is level.

I took some faux greenery and hot glued it around the base of my candle.

Then I hot glued the candle inside the jar lid. I didn’t secure the hurricane vase to the top but you can if you like. I may want to use it elsewhere.

And you are done!

Place it in your dollhouse and get decorating! 😊

I love it!

I can see many different versions of these to change out for the seasons or whatever you like!

I hope you enjoyed our Valentine’s Day craft despite it being not very Valentine themed! We still wanted to give our readers something fun. 😊
