DIY KIRA’S TENT FLIP

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today we are taking our DIY Lea’s rainforest house apart and redesigning it as Kira’s Platform Tent!

I have been wanting to do this for a while now just to challenge myself. I wanted to see if I could use the rainforest house for different set ups. Kira’s tent is the perfect jumping off point.

The first thing I had to do was remove all of the accessories from the house.

We have had so much fun with this adorable rainforest hut!

It has held up so well over the years too.

Next, I removed the burlap roof.

I had this cute pineapple print top that was perfect to use as makeshift fabric for the top of the tent.

I just unpicked the stitches and draped it over the roof of the tent.

It does have a hole but I actually like it as it lets a bit of light into the tent. We did keep the leopard print scarves that were hanging on the front of the structure.

My favourite part of this flip has to be the doll sized polaroid pictures. I found a tutorial over on Always Dolls and made them similar.

I made sure to edit the screenshots of my photos so the colours would be brighter. I sized the photos in a Word document and then glued them onto cardstock paper. Then I laminated them with packing tape.

My second favourite part of this DIY is the koala pillow. I found a pic of Kira’s pillow on Google for this. Then I simply printed it onto a piece of fabric.

I felt like the colours were a little dull, so I ended up brightening them up with some fabric paint.

Here is how our DIY Kira’s comfy platform tent turned out!!

For the bed, I used Julie’s bedding. The bed platform is just another bed I built a while back, but I used the loft bed from the rainforest house to reinforce it.

The rainforest house floor isn’t quite deep enough for the length of the bed, but I managed to make it work, and I still think it is super cute.

We didn’t have any mini clothespins but I found these ADORABLE pom pom paperclips that work like a charm. And their colours are perfect!

I hung the photos on the string in this way instead of vertically. I just think it is cuter. I printed the wildflowers banner using the suggestion from the same AlwaysDolls video. She printed hers on fabric though. I printed mine on cardstock paper.

Then I attached it with tape to a piece of dowel and hung it with some twine. So cute!

I had a bit of fun fur left from another craft so I sewed a cover for this MyLife doll ottoman.

This project was an experiment as much as anything so I didn’t really want to spend any money. Instead I wanted to use what I had on hand to see if I could create something magical.

For the vanity area, I just used more cardstock paper to cut out a mirror frame. I used some aluminum foil for the reflective surface and painted the frame gold.

The vanity itself is a photo box. I mounted it on the existing wall ledge by cutting out a slot in the back. I might still add some cute plants or other decor to that other existing wall ledge above the mirror. That is the fun of DIY. You can add in whatever you want. The sky is the limit. 😊

I used a tiny doll bowl for the sink, and I added some hotel shampoo and conditioner bottles. I also had some Our Generation toiletry accessories.

The camping area was kind of a last-minute add on. I discovered that I already had the American Girl fruit bowls that come with that set, as well as one of the same drinking glasses.

I only had one camping chair, but that’s okay. I used an Our Generation lantern and some garlic toast from my AG lasagna set. The rug is a mini doll blanket, and I had crafted an octagonal shelf awhile ago that I made a tabletop for out of a piece of balsa wood.

All in all, I think our Kira’s Platform Tent flip turned out pretty awesome!

The final touch? Fairy lights! I just wrapped lights I had on hand all around the front structure of the tent. Mission complete!

I think this is a fantastic way to reuse existing projects to create something brand new on a budget of literally nothing. I am so pleased with the result!

😊
