Maybe I’m not good enough.

I’m too fat.

And I’m ugly. My hair is too frizzy.

Those girls over there are probably talking trash about me.

Nobody likes me. I don’t have any real friends.

I’m not good enough.

Yeah, you! Um, could you help a girl out here?

Whew! Thanks! Hang on, I gotta catch my breath.

Okay, that’s better. Whoa, you’re much taller in person. 

Who are you?

Oh, right. I’m your Voice of Reason! But you can just call me Blythe. 

Anyway, I’m here to tell you not to listen to all of that! It’s all lies!

It is?

You betcha! You know that little voice in your head? The one that keeps telling you all those bad things about yourself? Well, that’s the devil. He wants to make you feel bad. He wants to break you, you know?

He does?

Oh for sure! He does it all the time. If he makes you feel bad enough, he might even get you to do bad things for him.

Really? Uh huh. That’s how he rolls.

But I don’t want to do bad things. 

I know. Nobody does, but if he makes you feel bad enough about yourself, you might change your mind. 

So all these negative thoughts, they aren’t coming from me?

Nope. No way! He just keeps telling you them over and over again, hoping that you will believe him. And you know what else? He uses other people to tell you bad things about yourself too! He gets inside everybody’s head, and uses them that way.

What a creep, amiright?

So, don’t believe him?

Whatever you do, don’t believe him. He just wants to wreck you. He sees how powerful you are, and he’s going to do everything he can to try to stop you. He wants to destroy you. He wants to destroy everything that God made that is good.

That’s terrible.

I know, right? Like I said, what a creep.

But guess what? 

What?

He can’t make us do things that we don’t want to do. 

He can’t?

Nope. That’s why he has to stoop to trickery. He has no control over us unless we let him in.

So how do I stop him?

You put a shield over your heart.

A shield?

Yup. God has promised to stand guard over your heart if you ask him. 

And all I have to do is ask?

You got it!

Wow! Okay!

Time for me to go! But hang in there, okay?

I will! And thank you! 

I am powerful.

I am good.

I have friends.

I believe in myself.

I can be brave and strong and kind.

I will help others. I will be the best that I can be. ❤
