Hi guys! Today I’m here to show you all how to make a doll sports bench! This tutorial has been on the books for a while now, since well before I got injured. I am so excited to finally be able to share it with you!
I don’t know about you, but over the years we have accumulated a lot of doll sports paraphernalia so we just had to create this sports bench to store it all in.
The main thing you need to make this sports bench is this chicken wire mesh jar holder.
I found mine at Michael’s for $10 but there are a ton of different kinds on Google and Amazon.
Sturdy cardboard
Metallic plastic sheet (optional; any kind of decorative paper will do.)
Juice pull tabs or bottle tops (x4)
Paint
Hot glue
Craft foam
Scissors
Pliers
Okay, let’s go!
First, I had to remove the handles of the wire basket with my pliers. I just bent them back-and-forth until they snapped off. This was actually much easier than I thought it would be.
Voila!Make sure all of your sports gear fits.
Next, I had to close up that bottom so that all of my sports equipment wouldn’t fall out. I also wanted to make a lid for the bench. I used sturdy cardboard for this. I just cut and measured the pieces like this:
I painted the whole bench metallic purple and hot glued the cardboard bottom on.
Now you can add the feet. I used pull tabs from juice jugs for this but you can use bottle tops if you like, just hot glue them on.
To make a lid, I glued pieces of cardboard together to form a box shape. Be sure that the lid just rests on top of the bench it should not fit snug.
I covered my lid in metallic plastic sheet and I painted the inside to match the bench.
Time to attach the lid to the bench. I used craft foam for this.
I just cut strips of craft foam to make hinges.
Glue the hinges to the back of the lid then thread the craft foam through the chicken wire and glue to the underside of the lid. Make sure you don’t accidentally glue the lid shut. The glue should only be on the lid, not the basket. This allows the lid to open freely.
And you’re done! Now the dolls have a sweet place to store all of their sporting gear!
Here is a look at what we have. The tennis rackets are Maplelea along with the sports balls. The badminton set is Our Generation and the trophy and Frisbee are dollar store finds. I am pretty sure that we have a lot more sports items downstairs in the big doll house but this is what I could find for now.
Everything fits and it’s so cute!
A perfect fit and there’s still some room for other items!
There you have it, a sturdy little bench to store all of your doll sports gear!
I hope you and your dolls enjoyed crafting with us today! Stay tuned as we do our best to play catch up. We have a ton of projects that we have been waiting forever to post. We are just so happy to be back!
Have a crafty kind of day and don’t forget to leave a comment below!

I’ve just found this one and I think it’s terrific too! The more of these special toys we can make for ourselves and with our children, the MUCH better, don’t you think? Thanks again!

We definitely love making rather than buying. If we can find a way to make it instead then we will, and we have so much fun making things together, so it’s worth it! 😊
