Hi guys! How is your summer going? We have less than a month left! Our summers tend to get away from us, but I think that is the case for most of us.Β

I will start off with news. My new sewing machine is here! Very very exciting. It even has a manual! My old sewing machine came with a manual, but it was in French. I tried to translate some of it in Google, but it’s much nicer to have a manual in English. LOL!

The machine also comes with an instructional DVD. Whoa, heaven have mercy! πŸ˜› I purchased the Singer Stylist 7258. I am just staring at it in all of its newness and glory. LOL! πŸ™‚ It has 100 stitches, many different stitch lengths and widths, ten different presser feet, 6 one step buttonhole options, and a self threader. Whoo! I am looking forward to buttons and zippers. I like Velcro, and I use a very soft kind, but zippers and buttons can be left open, and they won’t stick to everything. The new machine also has an over edge stitch which is similar to a serger. I do have a serger. I just have to learn how to use it better.

My old sewing machine had one presser foot, and six stitch options. That was it. And it was so vintage that if I did want to buy more parts for it, or an English manual, then it would have cost me a pretty penny on eBay. I got my old machine, a sewing table, as well as all of the supplies for it from a lady on Facebook for $50 so it has pretty well paid for itself. She thought it was broken, so I guess that’s why I got a deal. I am going to keep the old machine just until I become more confident on the new machine. My old machine is also good for more heavy duty projects.

What else is new. Oh right! The other reason that I haven’t been on the blog for ages! The proof for my new book is here, and it’s oh so pretty!! πŸ™‚ All 600 pages of it! I still have the final edit to complete, and then we are off to the races!! For those who don’t know, I am an author full time. I have just completed my Young Adult trilogy. It’s called The Everlasting Trilogy. I’m super excited about it, if you can’t tell. It’s also what has been eating up all of my time lately. πŸ™‚ But now it is done, and it is SHINY!

My life work. πŸ™‚ Yay! So excited!! πŸ™‚ ❀

I have also been starting a new novel lately, completely separate from the trilogy of course. It is so nice to be working on something new, and I am excited to be writing again! Editing for six months straight was really starting to take its toll. πŸ™‚ But you gotta do what you gotta do.

In the doll world, I have been working on a few things. Mainly, I have been trying to clothe all of the naked thrift store dolls.Β The American Girl dolls have plenty of clothes since they always get all the love, but I have quite a few Disney Animators, and Hearts for Hearts girls who are sad, and in need of love, and clothes. The Disney Animators especially, since their original clothing stains their bodies, so if they do come in clothes, then I immediately remove them, and make my own.Β I figure if I can work on one doll a week, then maybe I can get them all dressed, and happy by the end of the summer. πŸ™‚Β

Here are a few of my recent fixer uppers:

Love. ❀ πŸ™‚Β

I am also still organizing my craft room. I am working on getting all of my sewing patterns organized right now. I want to eventually have all of the patterns in manila envelopes in a box that I can just flip through, and find the pattern that I want. That means that I am printing them all out, and labelling them. Lots of fun! Not.

I am also transferring all of my AG Simplicity patterns from tissue paper onto computer paper. I hate tissue paper patterns with a passion, so this is a must if I ever want to actually use any of the patterns. I seriously can’t emphasize enough how much I HATE tissue paper. So that’s lots of fun too. Not.

More news. The enormous dollhouse in my basement. I was going to get rid of the doll condo and build some more doll rooms instead, however, the Little Miss has commandeered the Β doll condo as her doll sewing studio.

So instead, I have built one doll room that I am going to paint rather generically so that I can use it for multi purposes. So far, it is pretty blank, as in not even close to being finished. LOL! Still, baby steps. We are going to put our doll classroom in here for now. I will update when it gets closer to completion. πŸ™‚Β

Ok, now to more serious things.

I have been seeing a lot of blogs go dark these days, and I just wanted to be sure that you all know that we aren’t going anywhere! I totally understand, and sympathize with those who do decide to end their doll blogs. It takes a lot of time, and commitment to run a blog for sure. I just wanted to assure you all that we have no intentions of doing so.

We love our dolls, we love our crafting and sewing, and we definitely love our blog. Even though sometimes it seems that life gets away from us as it has this summer, we will always be back.

I think a big difference is that our blog, though quite doll concentrated right now, isn’t just about dolls. I started FIM as a way to share all of the crafty creations that we got up to over the years. Much of that has been doll focused for the most part, and will continue to be in the future, but a lot of it is just our life too.

Where I don’t see myself ever growing out of my dolls (yes, most of the dolls are mine as the Little Miss is starting to grow out of them), I also don’t see myself losing my creativity and spark for life. I will always be consumed with the drive to make and create. πŸ™‚

This blog is exactly as our name implies. We are faking it, mostly. πŸ™‚ That means that we don’t have all the answers, (most of the time we don’t even have a clue, LOL!) but we will always try, because there is no harm in trying, and because even the biggest failure beats not even trying at all. Most often we have surprised ourselves at what we can achieve more than anything along the way.

So we just wanted to let you all know that we are here to stay, and we hope that you will join us for many years to come! This blog is our happy place. We love all of our fans and our friends in the doll community, and come what may, we will always be excited to be here. πŸ™‚

  1. So many fun things going on for you too! So glad you are going to stick around as well. I know that my schedule has changed drastically lately and unfortunately my blog has suffered because of it, but I still enjoy my dolls and have no intentions of ending mine either. It might just be a bit longer between posts.

    1. My schedule just goes crazy in the summer! I have more of a regulated routine during the school year because the Little Miss is at school, so we are pretty strict in the routine. Summer is kind of a whirlwind where the schedule just pretty much goes out the window. We are still in summer mode, but just less crazy right now, although we do have a trip planned for the end of August. So not quite out of the crazy yet! πŸ™‚

  2. Congratulations on your brand new book! How very exciting. I love your blog. I discovered it fairly recently and I love and enjoy doll blogs as they are in one place. Yours is very well done.

  3. Congratulations on finishing your book! Nothing like a shiny new book in your hands! Ah! Love, love, love what you’ve got done with your Disney dolls. So stinkin’ cute! I have a few that need to be fixed up and redressed myself. πŸ˜€ And, super glad to know that you are going to continue to craft and create for the dolls. You are super talented and we love to see what you’re up to.

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet words! I am so excited to be done the series! It was well worth the effort and the wait. We are also most definitely in love with the Disney Animator dolls! Their faces are so adorable that we just can’t help ourselves!

    1. I love all the clothes that you make! Your Hearts for Hearts girls are adorable! I definitely recommend Pixie Faire patterns above all else for these dolls. I haven’t made a lot for my Hearts for Hearts girls, but I did find them some Glitter Girl outfits that fit perfectly so at least they are all dressed! πŸ™‚
