Hi guys! Okay long time no post, but I have finally decided that despite life circumstances, I am just going to post anyway.

As some of you know, we are in the middle of a move, so everything is kind of chaotic right now. That said, we might have to do small crafty posts for now whenever the inspiration hits.

On to today’s craft! So we have been eyeing up these cute little AG purses for awhile now, but I just can’t bring myself to pay over twenty dollars for one.

So today we decided to try and make one. How hard could it be?

What You Need:

Fabric

Hot Glue

Fabric Scissors

Yarn

Pen/Paper

Comb

Tape

Ruler

Okay! Let’s get started!

First, let’s make a paper template for the purse. Ours is 2.5 inches by 3 inches.

Next, we cut two squares. In hindsight, you should cut the template on the fold of the fabric. We also would have cut the squares so the pattern was running the other way, but again hindsight is 20/20.

After you have cut out your fabric piece, hot glue the top edge down. If you prefer to sew, that works too.

Now you can hot glue or sew the sides and bottom, right sides together to create a little pocket. Be sure to leave the top of the purse open.

Once it is fully secure, use scissors to round the bottom corners.

Now turn the purse right side out, pressing out the corners to make them sharp. The sides don’t have to be perfect as they will be covered with the handle.

Time to make the purse strap! We chose two colours of yarn for our purse, but you can use whatever you like. Both yarns are just regular worsted weight size 4, can you tell I have been learning to knit? Lol! If your yarn is thinner, you may have to add more strands.

For our purse strap, we used 6 strands of pink yarn, each measuring 22 inches long. Tie a knot in the top of all the strands leaving a tassel.

Now tape the knot to a flat surface and divide the yarn to be braided, 2 strands each.

Loosely braid. I say loosely because you want a soft purse strap rather than something stiff that won’t drape.

Tie a knot in the other end leaving another tassel. DO NOT glue the strap to the purse just yet. Set aside your purse strap.

Next, we will make the tassels for the bottom edge of the purse. Cut a length of yarn double the length of the purse bottom. Tape this yarn to a flat surface.

Cut groups of yarn 5 inches long. We used three strands for each, so that when folded in half, there would be six strands per tassel.

Fold one of the yarn bundles in half to make a loop. Pass the loop under the strand that is taped down.

Now feed the ends of the tassel through the loop and pull tight, securing it to the taped strand.

Repeat until you have enough tassels to line the bottom of your purse.

We made 8 tassels, keeping in mind that our purse strap is pink so the final tassel on either end is blue for contrast, and to continue the pattern.

This next step is optional. I don’t know if it makes much of a difference. It would probably look nice either way.

Using the comb, gently brush the yarn tassels.

This separates the yarn fibers to create a more fluffy, pom pom look. Again, it is up to you, and whichever look you are going for.

Be sure to comb the tassels on the purse strap as well.

Now using hot glue, attach the line of tassels to the bottom of the purse pocket.

You can add in the remainder of the yarn from the strand to the tassel on either side. Just hot glue it in place and comb it in with the others. You could also just snip it off.

Now let’s add the purse strap. Run a line of hot glue up one side of the purse and down the other to attach the strap on either side.

Time for a trim! Be sure to cut as straight as possible.

Tada! And you’re done! This little purse turned out so cute!!
