Hi guys!! Is this happening in your house too? The Squishmallows are TAKING OVER!!!

If you have also been completely taken in by the world of squish then this tutorial is for you! I have been sitting on this one for awhile, but I think now is the perfect time to make it.
What You Need
Sock (parental permission required)
Needle and thread
Hot glue
Fleece or felt
Cotton batting
Picture of Squishmallow for reference
Let’s begin!
Start with your sock.

I just bought a pair of kid’s socks from the dollar tree for $1.50
Stuff the toe of the sock with cotton batting.

Do not overstuff as Squishmallows are meant to be squishy. They are also not round like a ball which is what you will get if you put too much stuffing in. Shape it into an egg shape.
Once you have stuffed the sock, start adding some details. I used a cow reference picture, so I cut out an oval from some pink fleece for the cow’s nose. You could use felt for this as well with good result.

Using a needle and thread, I stitched the nose to the sock. Hot glue would also work.

Next, close up the sock. Using a needle and thread, stitch around the opening.

My sock was pretty small so I didn’t have to cut any off. I just stitched around the top.

I didn’t want the sock heel showing so I stitched under it.

Then I rolled the excess inside the top

and pulled the stitches tight to secure it.

Stitch the opening closed.

Now reshape to be sure everything is in the right place. Just squish it back into an egg shape. This is why it is important not to overstuff it.

To make the rest of the face details, I just hand embroidered them on with a needle and thread.

However, you could cut out pieces of black felt for eyes, nose, whatever face you want and hot glue them on.

Now it is time to add the ears. Depending what kind of creature you are making, I cut out two leaf shapes from the same pink fleece for my cow’s ears. Felt would work too. Both fleece and felt don’t fray so they are perfect for this project.

I folded over the end

and pinched in the middle.

Then I stitched them closed

and stitched them in place on either side of the cow’s head. Hot glue would work too.

Next I cut out two tiny triangles for horns. I had a piece of leftover black leather for this, felt or fleece would work too. I just used some crazy glue to attach the horns, but any strong glue works. Your squish creature may not have ears or horns. That is why a reference picture is important.

And you’re done!

Isn’t he cute? Give your squishy friend a big squish! Then wrap him up for Christmas for your dollies to enjoy!

Slumber party time!

Isn’t it amazing what you can do with just a sock and some scrap felt? Make as many as you like! Gift them to your friends! My daughter’s bed is covered with life sized squishmallows, so I guess I better get busy making some more for my dolls! She also confiscated this little rainbow cow as soon as she saw him. 😂

This is so darned cute and I really like the idea of using felt to make facial features, I think that would make them easier for children to make. Clever and fun, like always!

Thank you so much! Yes felt would work just as well for the faces, I think. The kids just love these so the minis for the dolls are a big hit. I am so glad you enjoyed! 😊❤️

You’re welcome!! I can’t wait to make some more too! They are so cute. Maybe I will make an axolotl one. My daughter has that one and it’s really sweet. 😊
