DIY DOLL ICE CREAM SUNDAES

Hi guys! I saw this adorable craft over on GirlCrafts and I immediately thought it would be perfect for our dolls. She made it as a pencil topper, but I just knew I had to try making some for the dolls.

WHAT YOU NEED

Hot glue

2L bottle top

Paint/Nail polish

Craft Foam/Clay (optional)

Paper/tinfoil (preferred)

Okay, so there are a couple of ways of going about doing this. At first, I simply followed her tutorial on her video.

Paint the bottle caps with nail polish.

Create a cone from craft foam to fit inside your bottle cap. Hot glue the cone into the bottle cap.

Now just cover the cone with hot glue. Make sure your glue gun is on the low temperature setting.

Easier said than done. I found it incredibly difficult to control the hot glue this way not to mention that my craft foam cone kept coming unglued by the heat of the hot glue.

In hindsight, I would have fashioned a solid tinfoil cone or taped together a simple paper cone instead. Lesson learned. I still managed to get a good result, so once the hot glue cooled, I painted it white.

Next, I decided to try a different technique. I scrapped the craft foam cone and decided to just build up the layers of hot glue on its own.

Now I’m not going to lie. This takes some time because you have to wait for each layer of hot glue to cool, but it does give you more control. I put mine in the freezer for a couple of minutes after every layer.

This also takes up more hot glue. It’s best to fill the bottle cap with some paper balls before adding the hot glue just to take up most of the space. When everything was done and cooled, I used the tip of the hot glue gun to create texture on the sundae.

Another way to make this project would be to get some clay and stick it in the bottle cap and create your sundae that way, but I didn’t have any clay.

When your sundae is done, you can decorate. I swirled on some coloured glitter glue and put a seed bead on top.

In the end, these turned out really cute and cost pretty much nothing to make. I think this method could be used to make doll cupcakes too.

Just stop building layers of glue at this point and decorate with paint.

In fact, that is what I thought these were at first, but then I realized they were ice cream.

Still, this craft was so cute and easy and it wasn’t initially even supposed to be for dolls.

The materials are readily available as well. You could stock an entire doll ice cream shop or bakery with these for practically zero dollars. The scale is great. Scale is important as even some store bought doll foods can be way off base scale wise. They also look so delicious. I like that they have some weight to them because of the hot glue. All in all, I am very impressed. 5 stars

My final verdict would be to use a combination of both techniques. Make a solid tinfoil or a paper cone to build your sundae up on and layer the hot glue on top slowly, keeping the gun set at a very low temperature and cooling each layer as you go.

Luckily, I did all this trial and error for you so you can have the best result! Maybe I overthink things. You guys will probably just be like bottle top, cone, hot glue, paint, done. No stress, no mess. Lol.

But truly there is nothing more frustrating than trying to make something from a tutorial, and having it bomb miserably. Believe me, I know! So I am glad that I got to test it out for you guys first. 😊

I don’t know if ice cream is the best choice for a bedtime snack. Lol!

That wraps up this week’s doll craft! I want to try to do at least one crafty thing for the dolls each week and with Christmas coming soon, I am excited to do some more themed crafts. ☺️

Anyway, thank you for joining us! I hope you enjoyed and that your dolls will soon be getting lots of yummy treats to eat!

As always keep smiling and have a crafty kind of day!

  1. These are so much fun to see! I’m currently working on building/making a foldable doll room bakery courtesy of Martha at the Party Paperteers. Her video was called the Ultimate Foldable American Girl Dollhouse from 4 months ago. They’re easy to make and not expensive, always a huge help! So now I’m going to make some of these for the bakery display. I love your creativity, Many Thanks yet again!!!
