Hey guys! So awhile back I got this incredible PVC pipe cutting tool from Amazon that allowed me to cut down kid’s hangers into doll hangers.

We hang our doll clothes in the craft closet, so we need real hangers rather than doll hangers to fit on the closet rod. Some people use pruning shears for this too.

Anyway, I was pretty proud of myself as I cut all the hangers up, and got all of our doll clothes hung up neatly.

Then someone asked, “But what do you do with the leftovers?”

That got my thinking gears turning as I stared at the pile of leftover plastic that I had that was about to go right into the landfill.

No, there has to be a use for it, I thought.

So, here I am today to answer the question, what to do with all the leftover hanger bits?

Of course, all of my ideas are doll related, but that doesn’t mean that you are limited to just this list. I hope that by finding new uses for old or broken objects, I can inspire you to look at your own pile of miscellaneous junk, and really think outside the box! 😊

Okay! Let’s begin!

First, let’s take another look at the pile of hanger bits.

Next, let’s envision them ruining the planet by taking up space at the landfill.

Now let’s get to work, so that never has to happen!

1. Hotel Luggage Cart

Seriously you guys, this is the cutest thing ever and all from bits of plastic hanger cut and hot glued together. I added a cardboard platform and some plastic wheels. Then I just painted the whole thing silver. Magic.

2. Nesting Tables

Pretty much any small side table or coffee table can be made using the straight pieces of the hanger bits.

We made these cute nesting coffee tables in a similar style to the ones my sister has in her house.

3. Headboard

Do your dolls use the box they came in as a bed? Why not add a headboard!

You could also paint it silver, gold, black, or bronze to make it look like metal. Just hot glue it to the head of the bed box.

4. Chair

At first I wasn’t going to make a chair as I didn’t think it would be sturdy enough for the dolls to actually sit in.

But then I thought it might be something that I could use as decoration, an accent chair perhaps, so I decided to try making one anyway. It turned out really cute!

5. Crib

I love how this turned out!

We’ve recently ordered the Caring for Baby, so we can’t wait to put her in this crib!

6. Bench

Same as the chair, we didn’t know if this would be sturdy enough for the dolls.

It might not be the best for super active play, but it is really cute for photos. I think it could probably be reinforced even more for play though, if need be.

7. Lamp

We made lamps in two different styles, but the sky is truly the limit for this one. I just love crafts that can have so many different variations.

8. Candle Holders

We made these cute candle holders from bits of plastic hanger and a paper strip wrapped around. We first painted them black. Then created a sort of gilded rustic finish with gold paint overlay.

These should probably be hung from a chain or a string at different heights for a modern aesthetic, but we just set them on the coffee table for now.

9. Plant Stand

This is one of my favourites. So cute and we made our plants removable so they can be switched up to match any decor!

10. Hexagonal Shelf

You could make any shape and style of wall shelf with these materials. We think this hexagonal shelf is so cute!

11. Lantern Decor

Another favourite and again, any style of lantern decor can be made with just bits of plastic hanger and some paint! We used the same gilded finish as the candle holders above. Bonus is the messier the hot glue, the more ornate it looks when painted. How cool is that?!!

12. Blanket Ladder

I think if I was to make this again I would make the rungs wider to fit bigger blankets. Of course, you can also just use it as a ladder shelf. Make two, glue them together and add shelves. Paint it black or brown if you want a more rustic look.

13. Picture or Mirror Frame

We chose to make an erasable frame for this rainbow days of the week calendar. The calendar can be filled in and then erased for the next week.

The calendar is also removable and can be replaced with a picture or anything else you like. We didn’t paint the frame, but again you could decorate it however you like. Add fake flowers or seashells for a different aesthetic.
