HAPPY EASTER!!

Hi everyone! I was going to post this yesterday, but the day got away from me! We were busy busy with Easter egg hunting, and Easter dinner preparations. I hope that all of you had an amazing Easter!

In the spirit of the Easter season, it is important to remember the real reason that we celebrate. I mean, chocolate is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but that’s not the real meaning of Easter.

When I was younger, Easter was always just about the Easter bunny. We had pictures to colour at church of tombs with big rocks in front of them, but I had no real understanding of what that meant. Jesus died for us. Huh? I couldn’t comprehend that.

It wasn’t until I got older, and had a child of my own that I truly began to understand what it meant, and how important it was. Jesus died for me. I mean, that’s pretty heavy stuff, but what does it really mean?

I got to thinking, and I got to asking questions. That’s something I do pretty regularly, the asking questions part. My first question was why did Jesus have to die? Okay, he died for us, I got that part, well sorta, but why? Why did anyone have to die at all? I mean can’t we all be friends, without the dying part?

And then it hit me. We are sinners. God could see that there was no hope for us. We were going to die (physically), but we were also going to be damned. The devil was going to try to take each and every one of us.

You see, we are in a war, and although there is rarely hope in war, there are Allies. In the big, crazy, immortal tug of war, we are the prize. The devil wants as many of us as he can possibly grab.

God wouldn’t stand for that, so he sent us a fighting chance. He sent his Son, His only Son, Jesus, to fight for us. Jesus would teach us. He would help us to see the true path, and then He would die for us.

I don’t know exactly how it went down. Probably some contract made in a back room somewhere. All I know is the devil wanted blood. Someone had to pay for the sins of the humans. So Jesus said, I’ll do it, and God gave us his only Son in order to give us this one huge chance at eternal life, this one chance to win back our freedom, and live forever.

When Adam and Eve were condemned from the Garden of Eden, they were no longer permitted to eat of the tree of everlasting life. That meant that as soon as they left, they started to die. God wants us to come back to Him. We have that choice. We can come back to the Garden, and gain back our eternal life. We just have to believe.

And it doesn’t matter if we aren’t perfect. We are God’s children. Remember how I said that I didn’t fully get it until I had a child of my own? I love that child no matter what. She will always have a home with me. She is going to go out there in the world, and do things I don’t agree with. She’s going to break my heart over and over again, but I will eternally love her. I will have endless forgiveness for her.

As she nears her teen years, she drives me crazy sometimes. She disrespects me. She talks back. She kicks and screams, but I always tuck her in at night, and I always return to check up on her at midnight to be sure that she is safe.

We are God’s children. Some of us are God’s unruly teens, but He loves us fiercely, and He’ll be damned if He’s gonna let the devil have us. He grieves oceans of tears for the ones whom He has already lost.

Here on Earth where the devil seems to be at every turn, and we have nearly lost all hope, God will not desert us. He will not let us down. He has given us this fighting chance, and He is waiting in the wings. All we have to do is ask.

And that’s why we celebrate. We celebrate because God so very much loved us that he wouldn’t just leave us here to die. He won’t just let the devil take us, and when the time comes, the devil won’t stand a chance against Him.

Jesus is risen. That’s the truly amazing power of God. He is risen, and He will come again. ❤

I want to leave you with a very special stop motion video made by my good friend, and my favourite devil butt-kicker, Madi over at Delightful World of Dolls. A year ago, she worked very hard to create a wonderful video with an incredible message that needs to be shared. Enjoy!
