Hey everyone! We are coming at you today with a thing of total awesomeness!!

Maryellen’s Retro Fridge!Gotta love it right? I have to admit that when I first saw it, I kind of squealed like a little kid again.

Anyway, like most things AG, the price tag immediately made me wilt a little on the inside.

If you live in the US, the AG prices are a bit of a luxury, but they aren’t necessarily astronomical.

For us folk here in Canada however, after currency exchange, and shipping fees and import charges etc. the price for AG stuff becomes pretty much like buying a small country. Especially for the big ticket items.

Bottom line, that wasn’t happening, even if it was the cutest little retro fridge that I had ever seen. But that’s what crafting is for, right? 

So today we bring you what we think is the cutest little retro fridge that a couple of bucks worth in duct tape can buy!! Hooray! Ahem. 

Let’s look inside the fridge, shall we? 

Oooh! There’s a whole lot of doll food goodness in there! Let’s take a closer look!Inside the fridge there is everything that a doll needs to make dinner.

There’s a Model Magic ham, and a bowl of green bead peas,

A bowl of craft foam carrots,

A bowl of bead cranberries, and a Model Magic bundt cake for dessert!

There are also the four orange soda pops that we made. In the bottom drawer, we find some fruits and veggies. The original fridge didn’t come with anything to go in the bottom drawer so we just added these.

The oranges and the grapes are tablecloth weights from the dollar store. The rest of the veggies are glass pieces that we found while out thrifting. We’ve had all of these for a while now, and find that they are very cute for use in doll scenes. 🙂 

Okay, now let’s take a look in the freezer!

There are three frozen dinners.

 All three of these can be removed from their boxes. We made these frozen dinners a while ago, we just didn’t have any boxes to go with them. We used smoked oyster boxes with the TV Dinner Printables from American Girl Ideas glued on. The oyster boxes were just sturdier.We also made an ice cube tray,And two blocks of butter made from hot glue. The original fridge comes with four sticks of butter, but we decided that two blocks was plenty. Lastly, there are two popsicle treats. I might still find a little box for these. We just made them out of Model Magic. 

Don’t worry, I will be putting up a tutorial for the butter, the ice cube tray, and the fridge itself very soon. 🙂 Now let’s see what the dolls keep on the fridge door. There are two racks.The bottom rack holds two bottles of milk that we made in a recent tutorial HERE and three jars of jam. There is a fourth jar of jam inside the fridge beside the ham. Black currant, Apple and Apricot Jams. Too cute! I’ll add these to the tutorial list too. The top rack holds the eggs. All of these eggs can be removed, unlike the AG version where they are stuck in the holder. These are the mini styrofoam Easter eggs that you can buy at the dollar store. We just painted them to look like actual eggs. 

We got this cute AG baking table on eBay for $20 and we thought that it went perfectly with the new retro fridge. All of these foods we just recycled from our Easter dinner.Stay tuned for a tutorial on how we built the fridge as well as all of the little details coming soon!

We also want to find a metallic decal or something for the front of our fridge to add some 1950’s charm, but we haven’t decided yet what to do. That’s the great part of DIY! You can always keep adding more!

The wire basket on top of the fridge is a thrift store find. It has some glass potatoes and onions in it. 🙂

As you can see, our fridge is a bit taller than the one from AG. I like that it is taller, but I am not so sure that it will fit in our dollhouse. LOL!

Oh well, I like it more as a playset on its own anyway, rather than part of the actual doll kitchen. Our kitchen isn’t retro, so the colour doesn’t really match very well. 

Do your kids do this? Stand in front of the open fridge all day, looking for snacks? LOL!

Yes you! Close the dang fridge!! 😛 

Now I’m thinking that she’s run off to have a pout. 

Our little kitty looks kind of grumpy too. LOL!  😛
