WELCOME JESSAMINE BLAIRE MCCONNELL!

Okay you guys we are back!! Finally! What a busy start to our summer! Anyway, we are happy that school is out tomorrow, so we have so much more time to work on what we love best–doll stuff!

First up is our newest lovely lady, Jessamine Blaire McConnell! (Jess for short. 😉 ) Here she is waiting for treatment at our doll hospital. (aka the living room couch)

We acquired this girl a month or so ago, and we got a lovely deal on her being that she was in pretty rough shape. When Jess arrived at our house, it looked like she had been in a bar brawl.

She had a black eye, and someone had tried to scratch her eye out something fierce. She also had a severe case of glaucoma in her left eye. She had on last night’s makeup in the form of some black sharpie eyeliner too, and pink lipstick residue in her eye sockets. Because lipstick goes in your doll’s eyes. No, it does not!!

Anyway, word to the wise, if you are going to draw all over your $100 doll’s face, please please please ask your parents first!!!

First, we cleaned up those eyes with a cotton swab, warm water, and some non-acetone nail polish remover. Be careful not to get water, or anything in your doll’s eyes.

Next, we painted her eyelids with acrylic tan paint and sealed it with some clear nail polish.

We just used regular acrylic paint.

Better! Jess was well on her way to recovery!!

Next, we had to contend with that black eye. We have a tube of persa gel 10 acne cream that we use to remove all pen marks from our dolls. Because the mark was in such a delicate spot, we had to be very careful. I didn’t want to get the cream inside her eye socket.

Here is Jess prepared for her treatment. I had to tape her eye open. Then I used a cotton swab to apply the cream, and gently covered it with a little square of plastic wrap. I set her in the window to get some sun.

Here she is after 4 hours. This stain was a very stubborn one. You can still see the purple line a bit, but at least it is fading. Back in the window she went.

After another day of treatment, Jess was feeling brand new! She still has a cloudy eye, but I haven’t been able to figure out what to do with that. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I was thinking just to darken it a bit with a black pencil crayon and then put some clear nail polish on there to make it glossy again. It is a surface issue rather than behind the eye, but I have tried everything to remove whatever is on there and nothing helps.

Oh well, she is still adorable. We’ve been wanting a Jess for a very long time. I love that she is part Japanese like me!  Alas, she was so expensive on eBay that I didn’t think that we would ever find one. This girl was only $50 including shipping, so we just couldn’t go wrong! 🙂

I think she is an artist and a blogger like me. She is very colourful and dramatic, hence the dress that she picked out. She’s also very creative, and she likes to be in charge. She has dreams of being a drama teacher, or a fashion designer one day. She’s also really quite adventurous. She likes to play pretend, and make up stories to act out.

Okay, she is too cute for words. I am just going to be over here dying of cuteness now. 😛

As you can see, her one eye is still a bit foggy. I thought that clear nail polish would do the trick because the other eye is much more glossy. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. One blog said to use a hair dryer with a paper cone to concentrate the heat on the spot, because it might be mold, but that didn’t work very well, and I didn’t want to melt her face or her eyelashes. 😦

Oh well, it is what it is. She’s still darling to me, and the Little Miss couldn’t care one bit about it. I’m just fussy that’s all. Here is a photoshoot of Jess taking a stroll in our garden!

The lilies are blooming! ❤

These are impatiens. They love the sun. 🙂

The lilies come back every year. They only bloom once, but they hold their bloom for quite some time. Right now, the rest of the flowers that we planted are quite small, but they will get much bigger. Once the lily blooms fall, the rest of the flowers will just take over. 🙂

So pretty!

Jess loves the garden!

Not much has bloomed yet, but it will!!

Thanks for joining us today!!

Jess is so happy to be here! 🙂 ❤ We are so happy to have her, and we are so glad to be back on the blog!

Happy summer everybody!

  1. Poor Jess, she obviously led a hard life, but you’ve given her a second chance. I have to admit though, I laughed out loud at the bar brawl comment! I’ve got a rehab project about to start, at least she doesn’t have any weird eye makeup.

  2. You did a great job with Jess! Working around eyes is always difficult. I wouldn’t worry too much about her cloudy eye, it’s barely visible in the pictures. It looks like she may need some cheek and lip color. I use acrylic paint as well. for cheeks I use a watery paint and dab on a small amount and use a cotton ball to smooth it and blend it. A little thicker paint for lips, but in the same shade usually works. What is great about acrylics is how you can wipe off with water if you don’t like it before it dries. It usually takes me a couple tries before I get the shade right! I have done this for a couple of my older AG dolls and I’ve been very happy with the results.

    1. Thank you! I wondered about using the hair dryer. I might have to try it again although I am still afraid of melting the doll’s eyelashes. I might just have to live with the eye being cloudy.

    1. Thank you! I also dislike weeding! LOL! It seems that every year the weeds come back in plenty in our garden. I’ve been debating starting over completely in there just to get rid of the weeds. 🙂

  4. You garden, Jess, and her dress are all beautiful! I think your rehabilitation looks terrific. Maybe any remaining issue with her eye is just part of her uniqueness.

  5. Congratulations on the addition to your doll family. She’s cute and you did a great job getting her back on her feet, so to speak.

    1. Thank you! That outfit was a build a bear dress that I revamped to fit the dolls. 🙂 It’s very fun and funky, so it matches Jess’ style perfectly. 🙂
