Hi guys! We were at the local thrift store the other day when we came across the Disney animator doll version of Jasmine. Her hair was in VERY rough shape, I mean dread locks galore, but I could see that she was clean, and she came fully dressed with both of her shoes even, so we couldn’t just leave her there.
We quickly scooped her up for $4.99, and brought her home to see if we could do something about that hair. The Little Miss was very skeptical. She wasn’t that interested in her at first, but I was determined.
The first thing to do was to wash all of that hair. What a mess! I had dealt with bad doll hair before, but nothing like this!
First I gave her hair a good shampoo. Then I put in a lot of conditioner.
Her facial features were really starting to shine through once her hair didn’t look so ratty. 🙂
Next, I used detangling spray, a brush, a comb and an iron to straighten out her hair. I did the same thing to Suri’s hair awhile back, so I didn’t take a lot of pictures. I just took each section of hair bit by bit and straightened it. It is best if the hair is wet when you iron it, so it steams it without frying it. Also, be sure that the iron is set to a low temperature.
Once all of her hair was detangled and straightened, I ran a good amount of hair oil through it. Then I trimmed the ends a bit just to clean things up.
Wow! The result is amazing! 🙂
Super soft and smooth, shiny doll hair! It is incredibly thick too. She has soooo much hair! Now that her hair isn’t such a train wreck, you can really admire her adorable face. 🙂 Awe!! ❤
I love how her facial expressions change as you turn her head. She can look up and down and all around and sideways. Her eyes are painted looking off to the side which just doubles her cuteness tenfold.
Ahhhh! She’s so cute! 🙂
I couldn’t figure out her original hairstyle. She is missing her headband, but I think that she is still pretty darn cute with her hair down.
Her clothing is pretty nice quality too. The shirt is a thick taffeta with a velcro closure in the back, and the pants are a silky satin with an elastic waist. She has painted on undies the same colour as her pants. Her shoes are made of flexible rubber plastic. They slip on and off very easily.
Next, we wanted to see if she would fit into any of our other doll clothes.
Here she is hanging out in Leena’s room. Leena is our Hearts4Hearts girl. Our Disney Jasmine’s measurements are very different from any doll that we have. She is wearing an AG skirt with a BFC doll coat, and a t-shirt that belongs to Rebecca Rubin’s little sister, Katie. 18 inch doll t-shirts are too large for this doll.
As you can see, she has molded toes. Her arms and legs are jointed, but not with elastic strings. Instead, they just have the regular plastic doll joints similar to the Wellie Wishers dolls. Her hair is rooted, but it is SO VERY THICK!!
I just love all of her cute facial expressions!
Here she is in a cute nightgown that I made too!
We have yet to name her, but Leena and Suri have been enjoying hanging out with her. Leena’s room is still temporarily set up in my craft room. I haven’t figured out a permanent space for her yet.
The Disney doll is larger than Leena and Suri. I think she’s about 16 inches tall.
Standing next to Leena, you can see that there isn’t much of a height difference.
Note: Leena is wearing a repurposed pink ruffled baby leg warmer. LOL! 🙂
However, Leena does have much smaller features.
Like I said, we don’t know what to call this new doll yet. The name Jasmine just doesn’t seem to suit her personality very well.
She is quite reserved and shy, which is definitely different than our Leena who has a very bubbly personality. In fact, I think that Leena was a bit much for the new girl at first, but now they get along fine. LOL!
So what do you think of the Disney animator dolls? We really want another one now! 🙂
Also, do you have any name suggestions for this little cutie?

Thank you! The pink typewriter is from an Our Generation retro set. I am going to be doing a review on a couple of the sets soon. 🙂 Violet is an adorable name. My friend named her baby that. 🙂

I love the Disney Animator dolls! I have almost all of them. I’m missing Aurora and Mulan. I have found almost all of them at thrift stores, like you, I just can’t pass them up. I am holding out hope that I’ll find Aurora and Mulan at a thrift store some day, so I can give them new life and avoid buying them new. Nothing wrong with new, but I love the idea of rescuing a doll that’s bound for who knows where. I love how you fixed up her hair! Sometimes it’s so much work, but I think they have great hair and I’ve always been able to fix it up nicely.

Aww, how sweet of you to say. 🙂 Mimi is an adorable name! We have a Lily and a mini Kendra from the Our Generation mini line. Alia is pretty too. So many choices!! LOL!

Great job! Did you comb out the tangles first before ironing or did you do everything kind of at the same time?
To me, she looks like a Cleo.

Ooh, Cleo is a pretty name! When working with this type of doll hair, you have to condition it very well. When ironing, it has to be wet. So I just separate a section at a time. I give the piece a spritz of detangling spray, and brush it out from the ends up. Then I spray some water on it, use the comb to hold it flat, and steam it with the iron. Working one small section at a time makes it less work to detangle. I know, it sounds painstaking, and with this doll it really was because she has SOOOO much hair, but it works really well.

Thank you for all of the suggestions!! I like Ruby and Bella (although there is a Belle animator doll that we have our eye on, so that might make things confusing. 🙂 )
