WE ARE BACK!

Ohmygoodness! It’s been long, but there is good news! All of the busyness is finally over! I had two major writer’s workshop presentations, and a book promotional signing this month, all of which was a smashing success, (find my author page here) and then we got a little bit drowned in Halloween costume madness. Whew! However, we are now free to work on other things! 🙂 Hooray!

I wanted to show you all of the Halloween costume madness that we’ve been working on for the past week. My daughter decided that she wanted to be Harley Quinn from the new movie that just came out.

Okay, I know what you are all thinking. I was a little put off at first too. I mean, I could go up on my soapbox, and rant about a super villain wearing nothing more than her underpants and wielding a baseball bat, but then I decided that Superman wears underpants outside of his clothes too, so whatever. (Keep in mind that my eight year old has never actually seen this movie, so I was a bit confused about where she had even gotten the idea. Apparently the new Harley Quinn is all the rage. Really?)

Anyway, I decided that if I could make the costume A WHOLE LOT MORE appropriate, then it would probably be okay. AKA: She will wear jean shorts and leggings. She will not show any midriff. She will not die from wearing a costume.

Okay, enough on that. Here are some pics of the thing! We worked pretty hard on it.

I sewed the jacket from scratch piecing it together from two thrifted men’s jackets.

I used a pattern tutorial that I found online at KenAndrewDaily.

It was pretty amazingly easy to make.

Next, I printed a logo from online for the back of the jacket. Since the jacket was made of nylon, an iron on transfer would not work, (I tried) so instead I printed the logo out onto card stock paper, painted it gold, and glittered it up. Then I cut it all out, and hot glued it right to the back of the coat. This was painstaking, but the result was worth it!

For the shirt, the only one that I could find at the thrift store already had a different logo on it. We tried everything to cover the logo. We even tried bleaching it out, but nothing seemed to work.

In the end, I had to reconstruct the shirt instead.  I just cut the part with the logo off, and then sewed the shirt back together again.

Next, I printed a logo onto t-shirt transfer paper, and ironed it on.

So there you have it! We are ready for Halloween!

All we need now is a baseball bat. Riiiight. Her teacher told me that if she was to bring one to school, it would have to be plastic. Otherwise it’s considered a weapon. Smart thinking.

She is a happy camper! 🙂

What are you being for Halloween?

  2. Wow!! The costume looks great! I’m actually not sure if I’ll be attending my church’s Fall Festival on October 31st, because if I do, I’ll have to help out with it ’cause I’m older… 😛 If I do go, I’m probably just going as a cowgirl again. 😉 LOL.
Once again, the costume looks fantastic! 😀

    1. A cowgirl is an awesome costume! We will probably just go trick or treating at the mall. It’s more fun because there are tons of people and games for prizes. There is also a haunted house. 🙂

    1. I know! I was like, can’t you be something easy, like a witch? LOL! I honestly can’t believe that I even pulled it off. I would have just ordered the dang thing online, but she waited until the last minute to decide what she wanted to be. So I told her, no, no way, and she tells me, Mom, you can do anything you put your mind to. I have faith in you. Now she’s quoting me, to me! LOL! Ahh, I’m just glad it’s done. No more craziness. Except Christmas. 🙂
