Hi all!
I was going to save this post for later, but then something amazing happened, and, well, I just couldn’t wait!
Drumroll please…
Kit Kittredge has arrived!!! For real! β€
Ohmygoodness! Ohmygoodness!!! β€
I have been wanting Kit for a very long time, and so this year for my birthday, I decided, why not? I can have a doll for my very own, right?
Now for those of you who know me, you know that Kit is my all time, absolutely favourite historical doll.
And why is that, you ask?
Why, because she is a writer of course!!! Just like me! π
Oh, and also because the outfits of her time (1930’s) are so unbearably cute that I could die! β€
But mostly because she is a serious writer.
And every serious writer needs a desk. π
Here is what we started with:
We found this adorable little jewelry box at a thrift store for just $5.00!
As soon as I saw it, I thought of Kit’s roll top writing desk.
I had to have it in my life immediately! β€
Here is a look at some of the adorable-ness that we are storing in Kit’s desk.
If you would like more info on Kit’s reporter set, you can find itΒ here.
Now clearly this version of Kit’s desk was badly in need of some legs. So there it sat in my ‘making room’ as I wondered endlessly about how to go about it.
However, when Kit arrived in the mail today, I decided then and there that the wondering was over. I had to make that desk a reality right away! I mean, where was she to write all of her incredible stories with no desk???Β π
I set about to wrangle some supplies.
A dollar store cubby, scrap wood, wood glue and some screws later, and I had this:
But it was the wrong colour!
So I took some wood stain to darken it. *Parental supervision required.*
Better!! β€
I just used wood glue to attach the jewelry box to the legs. The desk is missing one of its front drawer pulls, so I might move the single pull to the very center of the drawer. Unless I can find something else that will work.
As you can tell, we are always just faking it mostly around here, lol. π We have no earthly idea how these things are going to turn out in the end. π
There you have it! Now Kit is ready to take on her next big story!! This little desk turned out so great! I couldn’t be happier! π We are going to be putting together a room just for Kit soon. As our resident writer, she is going to need a space of her own. π
As for Kit herself, she was a used TLC doll that needed AΒ LOTΒ of love when she arrived, and she still needs more. β€
As you can see she is missing an eyebrow. She also has some purple marker on her face. She has another purple marker spot on the side of her cheek near her ear. Her legs are quite loose as well, but at least she can stand on her own. She is the older version of Kit so she doesn’t have any freckles. She has a few pen marks on her foot as well.
Kit’s dress is a reproduction of Kit’s meet dress that I found on eBay.
We absolutely love her, and we will be doing a complete restoration on her soon, so stay tuned!
Kit’s ribbon is a hair clip from the dollar store. β€
So happy early birthday to me, although my daughter immediately fell in love with her as soon as she saw her, and is now in bed snuggling her new dolly. Oh well. π It was a very happy homecoming for this little beauty who is obviously overjoyed to find a forever home!
(The seller I bought her from thought she was a boy doll! π That’s how rough her hair was!)
The little gas lantern is a thrift store find. I know it’s not exactly true to Kit’s era, but it is so cute on her desk!
I hope you enjoyed!!

nice job. you should be able to find “drawer pulls” like that in the picture hanging sections of most department or hardware stores.

We actually found her on eBay as a bundle. We got an AG bunkbed, an AG soccer outfit, a mini Kit (who we will be introducing to the minis soon π ) and our big Kit for less than it costs to buy one AG doll brand new!

Very, very clever! Poor Kit, she looks like she’s had a rough life, at least now I know she is safe and will be properly loved.
As for the light–believe it or not, not all homes used electric lights during that era. It’s more accurate than you originally may have thought. My mom grew up in Kit’s era and she frequently talked about how much she hated using lantern type light to read and study by. It was an ongoing joke because she had a tendency to leave all the lights on, we blamed it on growing up in the dark! LOL

Interesting! I am glad that we have electric light now. I am one of those people who leaves all the lights on too. π
Yes we are so glad that Kit has come home to us! We will have her right as rain in no time!
